Automated watering system
Automation is a way to ease life and helps us focus on other important areas. With terrace gardens, watering plants is one of the critical and time-consuming tasks. As much as it is fun to spend time in the terrace garden, there are situations in life when you will not be able to spend time occasionally.
I’ve set up automated watering systems on my terrace which has made my life easier. There are several choices of drip systems available and I have tried some of the below once at various points in time and providing my recommended list below. (not a sponsored link at all)

Points to remember before ordering one of these:
- Overhead tank- One of the important requirements for these kits to work is an overhead tank
- Most of these kits are DIY (Do It Yourself)
- Remember there is a little bit of plumbing work involved depending on the existing plumbing
Key features to consider in drip systems are:
- Timer with a digital meter
- Pick a timer with a rain sensor to reduce water wastage
The Elitech drip has a rain sensor which can help you reduce water consumption during monsoon. The timer part of these kits, provides a programable interface to set timer and frequencies to switch on the water based on the time required. (remember to adjust these timing based on the needs in summer and winter)
The kit consists of the Main Supply Pipe, feeder line, elbow joints, Drip Emitters, control valve, Drip Hole Puncher, etc. Also, an instruction manual can provide a very good idea of how to go about the setup. After the setup is complete, insert the battery into the timer device and set up the timer. Remember to monitor for any leakage or damage for the first few days.
With a little bit of effort, the drip system can be set up on terrace gardens easily which can make life easier for urban farmers. Do let me know your experience with such watering system.
